Overview
The Schefflera can be found in many regions worldwide, but is native to Asia, Africa, and the Southwestern Pacific. They are characterized by their umbrella shaped oval leaf clusters, hence their other name, the Umbrella Tree. Their leaves come in shades of green, sometimes sporting yellow or white variegation. In their native habitat, they can exceed 25 feet in height, but likely will not surpass 15 feet when grown indoors. Certain species of Schefflera are used to treat a wide variety of ailments in traditional Chinese medicine. Despite this, they are toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
