Overview

Native to tropical and temperate climates, the Tradescantia is also known as Spiderwort. These fast growers are grown for their beautiful foliage, which often displays stripes shades of pink, purple, green, and white. They can grow up to twelve inches high and one to three feet wide. These plants produce flowers with three petals, which come in white, purple, and pink. There are over 85 species of Tradescantia. Most Tradescantia varieties are toxic to both humans and pets; some will cause skin irritation upon contact, while others will cause mouth, stomach, and even vomiting if ingested.

Lighting/ watering/ care

Tradescantia are tolerant to most lighting conditions, but will do best in bright, indirect light.

Water with filtered or rain water when soil is 50%-75% dry. 

Keep your Tradescantia in temperatures between 65-75°F with humidity between 40%- 60%.

Tradescantia can be easily propagated by stem cutting, simply snip a healthy stem under the node and place it in water!
